HRANA: Shahrokh Zamani is still on hunger strike

HRANA News Agency – Shahrokh Zamani has begun hunger strike after being transferred to the dangerous prisoners’ ward once again.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Shahrokh Zamani had started his hunger strike on March 8th in solidarity with Gonabadi Dervishes. After being exiled to Ghezel Hesar Prison he continued his hunger strike for 39 days demanding to be returned to the political prisoners’ ward in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj until April 14th when the authorities returned him to Rajai Shahr Prison.

He was transferred to the hall 12 of Rajai Shahr Prison where the political prisoners are kept after spending 24 hours in Quarantine however the authorities transferred him to the hall 8 of ward 3 known as dangerous prisoners’ ward after couple of hours. As a result he began his hunger strike since April 15th once again.

An informed source told to HRANA’s reporter, “He was beaten by some officers when he was being transferred from Ghezel Hesar to Rajai Shahr Prison, his eyeglasses were broken and his ear was bleeding.”

Not being on hunger strike for only 24 hours he has lost almost 23 kilos during 42 days of hunger strike and is in critical health condition.

Mr. Mardani the head authority of Rajai Shahr Prison has been telling that the intelligence ministry is ordering Shahrokh Zamani to be transferred to different prisons and wards.

Shahrokh Zamani the member of provisional board for reopening of House-Painter Workers’ Union and the Follow-up Committee to Set up Free Labor Organizations has been arrested on June 8, 2011 in Tabriz and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
